I believe in starting out properly. So please let me introduce myself. My name is Susan and I currently live in the Midwestern United States. I am married and have three children, two living. I had a happy childhood growing up in the 1970s on the East Coast with four older siblings. I had (have?) a vivid imagination and could play for hours with my Fisher Price toys or my sisters' hand-me-down Barbies.
I was also a packrack and managed to save my toys in mostly decent condition. When I was in seventh or eighth grade, I started my "hope chest" and saved all of the baby clothes and shoes that I could find in my mom's sewing closet. I still have these items today, and my little girls were able to wear most of them.
As for my toys, though, my nephews arrived on the scene shortly after I left childhood, and they managed to go through them fairly thoroughly. None of my Fisher Price toys remain today. *sob*
But this simply fueled my present infatuation with all things Fisher Price, the older the better. I can't help but buy any FP sets (I use that euphemistically, since rarely is a Fisher Price Little People set ever complete once the box is opened) that I find at the local thrift stores. My girls have about eleven barns at the moment. You should see their herd of sheep!
As I hunted the thrift stores for these toys from my childhood past or for their childhood present, I realized that I wanted to share my findings with others who also have a sentimental attachment to the implements from babyhood and childhood. I started an Etsy store in the spring of 2012, and finally am starting a blog to sporadically chronicle this hunt. I would love for this blog to be interactive, as in for my readers, random or regular, to comment with their own experiences or answers to any questions that come up.
My next blog post will be about the Etsy store I started, Skip Down Memory Lane. Thanks for skipping by!
